Just wanted to say that I am loving this piece as I do the rest of your work. The camo patterns look sweet, such a great idea for a template
I was also wondering though, what your reasoning for the stretched bullet reflections was in the header? It's a flat surface so the reflections would be a perfect flip. The intense warping of them throws off the awesome realsim of the rest of the template. Shadows follow surfaces, reflections don't. So my only suggestion would be to fix them up
You know I love your style, and that's why I want to be a little critic about this one. The overall layout is great as allways, but I think it needs some of the final "DD-touch", if you know what I mean. It's unfortunately got som jaggedness and the bullets are too sharp. The text in the header is not at your usual level and it's the same with your camo-colouring of the basic shape - you use to be so great at texture/colouring (assault skin etc.).
But anyways, these are just details... You know you rock!
Glad to see you're still doing good and doing something I'm not good at for the time beeing; producing futuristic layouts.
This one was designed mainly for commercial use so I have made it less mental than usual. I sharpened the final jpeg which has kinda highlighted any jaggedness, although I have fixed some of it now.
The skin was based on an aluminium type texture (as in the bottom left one) and the camo was laid on top. I spent a long time getting the camo texture just right, because I didn't want it to look matt, I still wanted a slight shine on the main template. To much camo texture and opacity and it looks matt and the shading doesn't look good at all. I think I have managed to achieve a shiny(ish) camo effect, just about. lol
The text has to be fully editable for a client so I cant go over the top. A lot more time goes into usability now than just design.
Assault Skin is already up for sale on eXaltic.com and so will Cell 2 very soon, so this is something completely different.
love it Dan. Your style is still untouchable I've seen more interesting pieces from you but I know this was focused more on usability. I hope you are warming up again to put out some heart-stopping templates
